About This Trail

Azalea Combination Trail is a scenic 2-mile hike at Big Hill Pond State Park in McNairy County, Tennessee, that combines portions of the Azalea Spring Loop, a boardwalk section, and the path to the observation tower. This diverse route showcases multiple ecosystems within a single hike, including lakefront views, cypress swamps, and upland hardwood forests. The boardwalk sections provide dry passage through the wetland areas while offering excellent opportunities to observe waterfowl, wading birds, and other wildlife. Spring is especially beautiful when the wild azaleas bloom throughout the area. The observation tower at trail’s end provides panoramic views of Travis McNatt Lake and the surrounding forest. This moderate trail is perfect for nature lovers seeking variety in terrain and habitat within a manageable distance.
