About This Trail

Backbone Falls Trail follows Beaverdam Creek upstream to a beautiful waterfall hidden in the limestone terrain of northeast Tennessee. The trail passes through rich cove forest with large tulip poplars and hemlocks, crossing the creek multiple times on stepping stones. The waterfall cascades over layered limestone ledges into a scenic pool perfect for cooling off on hot summer days. Limestone outcrops along the trail display interesting erosional features, and the streamside environment supports diverse plant life including ferns, wildflowers, and rare orchids. This relatively easy trail makes an excellent family hike or a peaceful nature walk.
