About This Trail
The southern extension of the Backbone Trail continues the wilderness experience into terrain marked by clear-running creeks, additional sandstone bluffs, and dense forest. This section sees less traffic than the main trail, offering greater solitude for those seeking a true backcountry feel. Several creek crossings may require wading during wet seasons.
Getting There
Access this extension from the main Backbone Trail approximately 3 miles south of the northern trailhead. The extension continues to a terminus at Forest Road 348, which can also serve as an alternate access point with limited parking.
