About This Trail
This short but rewarding extension leads to an overlook of Bayou Coquille, where ancient cypress trees rise from dark waters and alligators patrol the shallows. Great blue herons and snowy egrets are regular visitors, and the peaceful setting offers excellent photography opportunities. The elevated boardwalk keeps feet dry while providing intimate views of swamp life.
Getting There
From the Barataria Preserve visitor center, follow the main trail system to the signed Bayou Coquille junction. The extension branches left and leads to the bayou overlook platform.
