About This Trail

Part of Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve, this trail system offers an accessible introduction to Louisiana’s legendary swamp ecosystems. Elevated boardwalks wind through ancient cypress groves draped in Spanish moss, past alligator-filled bayous, and into open marshlands teeming with birdlife. Interpretive exhibits explain the cultural and natural history of the region, and ranger-led programs enhance the experience. This is one of the best places near New Orleans to safely encounter wild alligators.
