About This Trail
This trail meanders through the rich bottomland hardwood forests of Bayou Cocodrie National Wildlife Refuge, where ancient cypress and tupelo trees tower over dark bayou waters. Elevated boardwalks carry hikers over the wettest areas while providing excellent vantage points for observing wood ducks, herons, and other wetland wildlife. The refuge is a critical stopover for migratory songbirds, making spring and fall visits particularly rewarding for birders.
Getting There
From Ferriday, take US-84 east approximately 3 miles to Bayou Cocodrie Road. Turn north and follow for 2 miles to the refuge entrance. The trailhead and visitor parking are located at the end of the refuge entrance road.
