About This Trail
Walking atop the levees that contain Bayou Sauvage’s managed wetland pools, this trail offers unique perspectives on both wild marsh and the New Orleans skyline in the distance. The flat, easy walking surface makes this accessible for most visitors, and the open exposure provides excellent birding opportunities. The contrast between urban and wild creates a memorable hiking experience.
Getting There
From the Bayou Sauvage NWR main entrance off Michoud Boulevard, follow refuge roads to the Levee Trail access point. A small parking area marks the trailhead.
