About This Trail
Located within the city limits of New Orleans, Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge offers a remarkable urban wilderness experience. This trail follows elevated levees and boardwalks through fresh and brackish marshes where alligators bask in the sun and herons stalk fish in the shallows. On clear days, the New Orleans skyline rises dramatically in the distance, creating a striking contrast between wild wetland and urban landscape.
Getting There
From downtown New Orleans, take I-10 east toward Slidell. Exit at exit 254 (Michoud Boulevard) and turn right. Continue south on Michoud Boulevard for 1 mile to the refuge entrance on the left. The Ridge Trail parking area is at the end of the refuge access road.
