For a shorter rock scramble alternative to Old Rag, the 1.2-mile Bearfence circuit offers hands-and-feet climbing to a spectacular 360-degree viewpoint. It’s challenging but achievable for most hikers and delivers views far exceeding what you’d expect from such a short trail. The exposed summit can be windy, so bring layers.
