About This Trail

The Big Cypress Bend Boardwalk penetrates one of South Florida’s most beautiful cypress swamps, where massive bald cypress trees draped in bromeliads and orchids create a prehistoric atmosphere. This fully accessible boardwalk winds through the swamp, passing beneath canopies of ancient trees and over dark water where alligators and turtles patrol. The swamp’s microhabitats support an astonishing diversity of plant life, including numerous rare orchids and air plants. Bird watching is excellent, with barred owls, limpkins, and various wading birds commonly encountered. The boardwalk provides a safe, dry passage through terrain that would otherwise require wading, making this pristine ecosystem accessible to all visitors.
