About This Trail
Big Talbot Island State Park protects remarkable coastal habitats including the famous Boneyard Beach, where ancient oaks killed by salt water intrusion create a hauntingly beautiful landscape of bleached skeletons against sky and sea. The trail system explores the island’s diverse environments, from the dramatic beach to maritime hammock forests and salt marshes teeming with wading birds. The Blackrock Trail leads to unique formations where erosion has exposed the island’s coquina and sandstone foundation. The park’s location on the Atlantic Flyway makes it excellent for bird watching during migration seasons. This is northeast Florida’s most photographed natural area, with the skeletal trees of Boneyard Beach creating scenes that seem almost otherworldly.
