About This Trail

Blanton Forest Trail explores Kentucky’s largest remaining old-growth forest, a 3,500-acre preserve protecting virgin timber that has never been logged. The trail passes through towering hemlocks, massive tulip poplars, and ancient oaks, with some trees exceeding 400 years in age. The cathedral-like forest supports exceptional biodiversity, including numerous rare plant species and abundant wildlife. Several loop options allow hikers to experience different sections of the preserve. This remarkable forest provides a window into Kentucky’s natural heritage, showcasing the magnificent woodland that once covered the Appalachian region before European settlement.
