About This Trail

The Bluestone Turnpike Trail follows the historic route along the beautiful Bluestone River in Pipestem Resort State Park. This relatively flat trail is popular with hikers and bikers, following the gentle river through a scenic gorge. The trail passes historic sites related to the turnpike that once served as a major transportation route through the mountains. The Bluestone River supports excellent fishing, and numerous access points allow anglers to try their luck. The forested canyon provides shade and cool temperatures, making this a pleasant summer hike. The trail connects to other routes in the park for extended explorations.

Getting There

From Pipestem Resort State Park, take the aerial tram or River Trail to the canyon floor. The Bluestone Turnpike Trail follows the river from the tram station.
