About This Trail
This segment of the Buffalo River Trail connects two of the river’s most popular areas, traversing bluff lines with panoramic views of the river below. The trail passes historic homesites, accesses swimming holes during warm months, and provides an excellent introduction to the longer Buffalo River Trail system. Moderate difficulty with some climbing makes this achievable for most hikers seeking classic Buffalo River scenery.
Getting There
From Ponca, cross the low-water bridge and park at the Ponca access area. The trail begins at the signed trailhead near the bridge and follows the river downstream toward Steel Creek Recreation Area.
