About This Trail

Cane Creek Canyon Nature Preserve is a remarkable 700-acre private sanctuary in the foothills of the Appalachians, featuring dramatic sandstone canyons, multiple waterfalls, and one of Alabama’s most diverse wildflower populations. The preserve’s trail system winds through pristine hardwood forests, past towering rock formations, and to overlooks of deep gorges carved by centuries of flowing water. Spring brings spectacular displays of trilliums, wild azaleas, and countless other native flowers, while autumn transforms the canyon into a blaze of color. The preserve is open to the public on select weekends by reservation, creating an intimate wilderness experience far from crowds. Hikers should be prepared for rugged terrain with significant elevation changes and stream crossings.
