About This Trail
This cultural trail explores the landscape of Louisiana’s Cane River Creole community, passing beneath magnificent live oak alleys and among preserved plantation buildings that tell the complex story of French colonial heritage and enslaved people’s lives. The park preserves both Oakland and Magnolia Plantations, with trails connecting historic structures, gardens, and outbuildings. Ranger-led tours and interpretive exhibits bring this unique American culture to life.
Getting There
From Natchitoches, take LA-1 south approximately 2 miles to Oakland Plantation entrance on the left, or continue another 10 miles to Magnolia Plantation. Both sites have dedicated parking lots with trail access.
