About This Trail
This loop trail explores the grounds of Oakland Plantation, one of the best-preserved Creole cotton plantations in the South. The path passes beneath ancient live oaks, by slave quarters and outbuildings, and through gardens that evoke life on a 19th-century Louisiana plantation. Interpretive materials and ranger programs provide context for understanding this complex history.
Getting There
From Natchitoches, take LA-1 south approximately 2 miles to the Oakland Plantation entrance on the left. Park at the visitor lot and check in at the park office before exploring the grounds.
