About This Trail

Tucked away in southwest Atlanta, Cascade Springs Nature Preserve protects 135 acres of urban wilderness centered around a historic springhouse and cascading waterfall. The preserve’s trails wind through mature hardwood forest, passing the stone springhouse built in the 1800s when the area was a popular resort destination. Civil War earthworks remain visible along the ridges, where Confederate troops once defended Atlanta. The centerpiece is a small but scenic waterfall that flows year-round, creating a peaceful retreat from city life. Interpretive signs explain the area’s fascinating history and ecological significance. The relatively short trails make this an ideal destination for a quick nature escape, a morning bird walk, or introducing children to hiking.
