About This Trail

Cascades Falls drops 66 feet over a moss-covered cliff into a large pool, creating one of Southwest Virginia’s most photogenic waterfalls. The trail follows Little Stony Creek through a forested gorge, passing smaller cascades and pools before reaching the main attraction. The creek’s clear water tumbles over rocks throughout the approach, building anticipation for the dramatic finale. The waterfall’s setting—a natural amphitheater surrounded by forest with the creek continuing below—invites lingering. A return loop option via the Upper Trail adds variety and ridgetop views. This accessible waterfall hike has been popular for generations, drawing visitors to one of Virginia’s most beautiful natural features.
