About This Trail

Cedar Sink Trail leads to one of the most impressive surface features of Mammoth Cave National Park—a massive sinkhole approximately 300 feet across and 100 feet deep. The trail descends into the sinkhole through cedar forest, passing dramatic rock formations and providing a glimpse into the karst geology that created the world’s longest cave system below. A stream disappears into the sinkhole floor, flowing into the cave system beneath. Interpretive signs explain the geological processes at work. This above-ground trail offers insight into the forces that created Mammoth Cave without requiring an underground tour.
