About This Trail

A 3.4-mile paved path following the historic Indiana Central Canal through Butler University’s campus and the Indianapolis Museum of Art grounds at Newfields. The flat towpath passes canal-era stonework and tree-lined waterways, connecting to the Monon Trail and White River Greenway in one of Indy’s most scenic urban corridors.

Getting There

From downtown Indianapolis, the Central Canal Towpath runs from Broad Ripple south along the historic canal. Access the 7.7-mile crushed limestone trail from 30th Street near the Indiana Armory or from Broad Ripple.
