About This Trail
Circling the entire shoreline of Lake Chicot, this extended trail offers one of Louisiana’s premier backpacking experiences. The route passes through varied habitats from upland pine forest to cypress-lined lakefront, with designated backcountry campsites allowing multi-day adventures. Wildlife is abundant, and the trail provides ever-changing views across the scenic lake. This is an excellent introduction to overnight backpacking in Louisiana’s mild climate.
Getting There
From Ville Platte, take LA-3042 north 7 miles to Chicot State Park entrance. Check in at the park office for backcountry camping permits and trail conditions. The main trailhead begins at the South Landing area near the park's western boundary.
