About This Trail

Chimney Rock rises dramatically above Hickory Nut Gorge, a distinctive granite monolith offering spectacular views from its observation deck 315 feet above the parking area. For those preferring to hike, the staircase and trail system climbs through interesting geological features to the summit, passing through tunnels carved in the rock and along cliff edges with constant views. The park also includes trails to Hickory Nut Falls, one of the highest waterfalls east of the Mississippi at 404 feet. The elevator provides alternative access to the chimney for those unable to climb. The combination of iconic scenery, varied trails, and developed facilities makes this one of Western North Carolina’s premier attractions.
