About This Trail

The Cliffside Trail at Hawks Nest State Park descends through dramatic sandstone formations to a hidden waterfall and unique geological features. The trail passes massive boulders, through narrow passages between rock walls, and past overhanging ledges before reaching the falls. The geological diversity along the trail provides excellent examples of erosional features in sandstone. This more challenging route contrasts with the easier rail trail, offering adventure seekers a different perspective on the park. The waterfall at trail’s end provides a scenic reward for the effort, though water flow varies seasonally.
