About This Trail
Confederate Memorial Park in Marbury preserves the site of Alabama’s Confederate Soldiers Home, which operated from 1902 to 1939 providing care for aging veterans. The nature trail winds through the 102-acre park, passing the cemetery where over 300 veterans rest, historical structures, and through diverse forest habitats. While the park’s primary focus is historical, the trails offer pleasant woodland hiking with opportunities for wildlife viewing and nature study. The museum provides context for the site’s history and the experiences of Confederate veterans in the decades following the war. This contemplative park encourages reflection on the Civil War’s long aftermath and the lives of those who fought.
