About This Trail

Cowrock Mountain provides an accessible taste of the Appalachian Trail experience without requiring an all-day commitment. The relatively short hike from Tesnatee Gap climbs through a beautiful forest of oak, hickory, and maple, passing through corridors of ferns and wildflowers before emerging at rocky outcrops with commanding views. The exposed rocks at the summit offer 180-degree panoramas of the surrounding Blue Ridge peaks, making this an ideal spot for photography or a scenic picnic. The trail is well-maintained and clearly marked, making it suitable for hikers with some experience seeking a moderately challenging outing. Spring wildflowers and autumn foliage make this section particularly spectacular.
