About This Trail
The Moonbow Trail at Cumberland Falls State Resort Park leads to one of Kentucky’s most spectacular natural attractions—the 125-foot-wide Cumberland Falls, known as the ‘Niagara of the South.’ The falls plunge 68 feet over a broad rock ledge, creating a thundering display of power and beauty. Most remarkably, this is one of only two places in the Western Hemisphere where a moonbow (lunar rainbow) can be regularly observed. During full moon periods with clear skies, the mist from the falls creates a ghostly arc of light. The trail system offers multiple viewpoints of the falls from various angles, including a path leading to the base.
