About This Trail

Dog Slaughter Falls Trail leads to a beautiful waterfall cascading over a rock ledge into Dog Slaughter Creek, named for an unfortunate incident involving hunting dogs in pioneer times. The trail follows the Sheltowee Trace through forest before descending to the falls, which drop approximately 15 feet into a scenic pool. The falls are located near the confluence with the Cumberland River, and the surrounding area offers excellent scenery and fishing opportunities. This trail provides a pleasant combination of forest hiking and waterfall viewing, with the historical name adding a touch of frontier Kentucky character.
