About This Trail

The Anhinga Trail in Everglades National Park offers the most accessible and reliable wildlife viewing in the entire Everglades ecosystem. This paved and boardwalk trail loops through Taylor Slough, where alligators, anhingas, herons, egrets, and countless other species congregate in remarkable abundance, especially during the dry season when animals concentrate around remaining water. The trail’s name honors the anhinga, or ‘snakebird,’ which is commonly seen drying its wings on branches after diving for fish. Winter months bring the highest wildlife concentrations, but the trail rewards visits year-round. This is essential Everglades hiking that provides intimate encounters with the River of Grass and its remarkable inhabitants.
