About This Trail

The Fayette Station Road descends from the rim to the river, providing unique views of the New River Gorge Bridge from directly below. This historic road once served as the main route across the gorge before the bridge was constructed. Walking or driving the winding road provides constantly changing perspectives of the massive bridge structure towering overhead. At the bottom, the old Fayette Station area offers river access and historical exhibits about the coal mining and railroad heritage of the gorge. The road continues across the old bridge to connect with trails on the opposite side of the river.
