About This Trail
The Pine Mountain Trail at F.D. Roosevelt State Park offers 23 miles of backcountry hiking through the scenic ridges and valleys that Franklin Roosevelt loved during his presidency. The trail traverses diverse habitats from dry ridgetop forests to lush stream valleys, passing historic CCC-era stone structures, cascading waterfalls, and numerous overlooks with views stretching across the Georgia Piedmont. FDR built his Little White House nearby and frequently visited this area for its natural beauty and therapeutic warm springs. The trail can be hiked as a long day hike, backpacked over multiple days using designated backcountry campsites, or explored in sections using multiple trailheads. Spring wildflowers and autumn colors are particularly spectacular.
