About This Trail

Flagg Mountain holds the distinction of being the southernmost peak in the Appalachian Mountain chain exceeding 1,000 feet, and its summit offers remarkable views from a restored CCC-era fire tower and cabin. The trail climbs through forest of oak, hickory, and pine to the 1,152-foot summit, where the stone tower provides 360-degree views of the surrounding hills and valleys. The Civilian Conservation Corps built the tower and cabin in the 1930s, and restoration efforts have preserved these historic structures for modern visitors. The loop trail explores the summit area with interpretive signs explaining the mountain’s natural and human history. This is a pilgrimage site for hikers seeking to touch the southernmost Appalachian summits.
