About This Trail

Flint Mill Trail ascends through the Flint Mill Scenic Area to Flint Mill Gap, passing through diverse forest types from streamside coves to ridgetop oak forests. The trail gains significant elevation as it climbs from the creek valley to the gap, rewarding hikers with increasingly open views through the trees. The scenic area protects one of the finest examples of Appalachian cove hardwood forest in the Cherokee National Forest, with massive tulip poplars, buckeyes, and basswoods reaching impressive heights. Spring wildflowers are abundant, and the remote character of this area provides excellent opportunities for solitude. The trail connects to other routes for loop possibilities.
