Graveyard Fields Loop
High-elevation meadows with waterfalls and blueberry picking.
About This Trail
Graveyard Fields offers a unique high-elevation landscape where a devastating fire in 1925 transformed dense forest into open meadows dotted with wildflowers and blueberry bushes. The loop trail explores this distinctive terrain, visiting both Upper and Lower Falls where the Yellowstone Prong tumbles over rocky ledges into pools. The name derives from the tree stumps and fallen logs that once resembled a graveyard, though the landscape has largely recovered into a mix of meadow and young forest. Late summer brings exceptional blueberry picking, while the waterfall swimming holes provide refreshment on warm days. The loop’s moderate difficulty and diverse rewards make this one of the Blue Ridge Parkway’s most popular destinations.
