About This Trail

The Green Mountain Trail via Whissenhunt Loop offers a quintessential north Georgia hiking experience, featuring a scenic suspension bridge over the Toccoa River and trails through peaceful mountain forest. The swinging bridge—one of the longest in Georgia—provides thrilling views of the river far below and serves as the highlight of this moderate loop hike. Beyond the bridge, the trail climbs through mixed hardwood and pine forest to ridgetop views before descending back to the river valley. The Toccoa River’s clear waters support excellent trout fishing, and the surrounding forest hosts diverse wildlife. This trail sees lighter traffic than more famous north Georgia destinations, offering a more solitary mountain experience.
