About This Trail

The Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve protects over 73,000 acres of coastal habitats, with trail systems at multiple units offering diverse hiking experiences. The Guana River Wildlife Management Area features trails through maritime hammock, sand pine scrub, and along the shores of Guana Lake where alligators bask and ospreys nest. The unspoiled Atlantic beach provides miles of natural shoreline for walking, while the tidal marshes and estuarine waters support incredible biodiversity. The reserve’s north beach dam area is particularly scenic, where the Guana River meets the ocean. This vast protected area provides northeast Florida’s finest coastal hiking.
