Guyandotte Beauty Trail
Trail to endangered wildflowers past abandoned coal mine.
About This Trail
The Guyandotte Beauty Trail at Chief Logan State Park leads past an abandoned coal mine to an area protecting the rare Guyandotte Beauty flower, found only in a small region of southern West Virginia. This challenging trail climbs through the forested hillside, passing remnants of the area’s coal mining heritage before reaching the protected wildflower area. The flower blooms in mid-spring, typically late April through May, and visitors during this time may see the delicate white blossoms. The trail provides insight into both the natural heritage and industrial history that define southern West Virginia. Please stay on the trail to protect the rare plants.
