About This Trail
At 4,051 feet, Hawksbill is Shenandoah’s highest peak. Multiple routes reach the summit, ranging from a gentle 2.1-mile round trip from the upper parking area to longer approaches from the valley floor. The stone observation platform offers 360-degree views that, on clear days, extend to the Allegheny Mountains. The summit is one of the park’s few places where you might spot the endangered Shenandoah salamander.
Getting There
From Front Royal, VA, enter Shenandoah National Park via Skyline Drive. The upper Hawksbill parking area is at Mile 46.7.
