About This Trail
At 209 feet, Hemmed-In-Hollow Falls is the tallest waterfall between the Rocky Mountains and the Appalachians, and reaching it requires one of the most strenuous day hikes in Arkansas. The trail plunges over 1,000 feet into a lush, cliff-ringed amphitheater where the falls cascade into a misty pool. Swimming holes along the creek invite tired hikers to cool off before the demanding climb back out. This is a true wilderness experience that rewards fit hikers with unforgettable scenery.
Getting There
From Compton, take AR-43 north approximately 1 mile to the Compton Trailhead parking area on the left. The trail descends via the Old River Trail before connecting to the Hemmed-In-Hollow spur. Allow extra time for the strenuous return climb.
