About This Trail

High Shoals Falls Trail descends through a cool, fern-draped forest to reveal two stunning waterfalls on High Shoals Creek in the Chattahoochee National Forest. The upper falls drops 50 feet over a rocky ledge, while the lower falls cascades another 75 feet into a deep pool that’s perfect for swimming on hot summer days. The trail passes through a diverse forest of hemlocks, rhododendrons, and hardwoods, with the sound of rushing water growing louder as you descend. Wooden observation platforms provide safe viewpoints of both falls, while adventurous hikers can scramble down to the swimming hole below the lower falls. The return climb is moderate but steady—remember that going down is only half the journey.
