About This Trail

Historic Blakeley State Park preserves the site of the last major battle of the Civil War and the ruins of Alabama’s first county seat, creating a uniquely atmospheric hiking experience. The trails wind through forest that has reclaimed the old town site, past Confederate earthworks, and along bluffs overlooking the Tensaw River and Mobile Bay. The Battle of Blakeley occurred on April 9, 1865, the same day Lee surrendered at Appomattox, making this site historically significant. Beyond the battlefield, trails explore diverse coastal habitats including bottomland hardwoods and bayou margins. The combination of deep history and natural beauty makes this one of Alabama’s most evocative hiking destinations.
