Island in the Sky Trail

The Island in the Sky Trail at Babcock State Park passes the famous Glade Creek Grist Mill, one of the most photographed sites in West Virginia, before climbing through rocky terrain to scenic overlooks. The historic mill, reconstructed from components of three different mills, operates during summer months grinding corn and wheat. The trail continues past the mill into the forest, climbing over rocky outcrops and through rhododendron thickets to viewpoints overlooking Glade Creek. The combination of historic interest and natural beauty makes this one of the most rewarding short hikes in the state park system.
