About This Trail

The Jacks River Trail penetrates the heart of the Cohutta Wilderness, following one of Georgia’s most pristine mountain rivers through a landscape of unspoiled natural beauty. The trail crosses the river numerous times—up to 40 fords on the full route—making it an adventure best suited for warm weather when the crossings become refreshing rather than challenging. Deep swimming holes, cascading shoals, and abundant wildlife make this one of Georgia’s premier backcountry experiences. The remote location ensures solitude, while the river’s clear waters support excellent trout fishing. Backpackers can combine this trail with others in the Cohutta system for multi-day wilderness loops.
