About This Trail

Jones Gap State Park preserves a historic mountain toll road that now serves as a trail through one of South Carolina’s most scenic gorges. The Jones Gap Trail follows the Middle Saluda River, the state’s first designated scenic river, past tumbling cascades and through diverse forest to Jones Gap Falls. The varied terrain includes river crossings, rocky sections, and peaceful forest walking, with the constant soundtrack of flowing water. The historic significance of the route—once a major transportation corridor across the mountains—adds depth to the natural beauty. Multiple trail connections allow for loop options and extended explorations within the Mountain Bridge Wilderness.
