About This Trail

Kolomoki Mounds State Historic Park protects one of the most important archaeological sites in the southeastern United States, with trails exploring this ancient ceremonial complex built between 250 and 950 AD. The paths climb the largest temple mound and visit several burial mounds, while interpretive signs and an on-site museum explain the sophisticated culture that created this complex. Beyond the archaeological features, the park offers scenic trails around Lake Kolomoki through forests of pine and hardwood. The combination of deep history, natural beauty, and peaceful atmosphere creates a uniquely contemplative hiking experience. Spring wildflowers add color to the forest floor, while the lake supports diverse birdlife throughout the year.
