About This Trail

Magnolia Springs State Park protects one of Georgia’s most remarkable natural features—a spring producing 7 million gallons of crystal-clear water daily, creating a scenic aquatic habitat for alligators, turtles, and diverse fish species. The Beaver Dam Trail loops through the park’s diverse habitats, passing the main spring, crossing boardwalks over wetlands where alligators bask in the sun, and winding through longleaf pine and bottomland hardwood forests. The park occupies the grounds of Camp Lawton, a Civil War prison camp, and exhibits near the trailhead explain this somber history. The combination of natural beauty, wildlife viewing, and historical significance makes this one of south Georgia’s most rewarding hiking destinations.
