About This Trail
The Mammoth Cave Railroad Bike and Hike Trail follows the former railroad bed that once brought tourists to Mammoth Cave, now converted to a scenic multi-use path. The gravel trail passes through the characteristic karst landscape of the region, with sinkholes, cedar glades, and mixed hardwood forest along the route. Historical markers explain the railroad’s role in developing Mammoth Cave as a tourist destination in the early 1900s. The relatively flat grade makes this suitable for hikers and bikers of all abilities. The trail provides a pleasant approach to the cave area and connects with other park trails for extended adventures.
