About This Trail
Max Patch is a 4,629-foot grassy bald offering 360-degree panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. The Appalachian Trail crosses the summit, making it a popular destination for both thru-hikers and day hikers. The open meadow is perfect for picnics, stargazing, and watching sunrise or sunset paint the mountain ridges.
Getting There
From Hot Springs, NC, take NC-209 south. Turn right onto Max Patch Road (SR 1182) and follow to the trailhead parking.
