About This Trail
McAfee Knob is one of the most iconic viewpoints on the Appalachian Trail, featuring a dramatic rock outcropping with sweeping 270-degree views of the Catawba Valley and surrounding mountains. The trail climbs steadily through mixed hardwood forests before reaching the exposed rocky summit.
Getting There
From Salem, VA, take VA-311 north through Catawba. The trailhead parking lot is on the right side of the road, about 5 miles north of Catawba.
