About This Trail

Part of the 63-mile Metacomet Trail and New England National Scenic Trail, this segment traverses traprock ridgeline through Penwood State Park along the Simsbury-Bloomfield line. Mature forest, glacial erratics, and frequent cliff-edge viewpoints reward hikers on this 200-million-year-old basalt formation.

Getting There

From I-91, take Exit 35B to Cottage Grove Road heading west. Continue to Route 185 toward Simsbury. At the top of the hill, Penwood State Park entrance is on the right. Cross Route 185 to the trailhead.
